Stand Up for Justice by Matt Gottlieb
When a Jewish comedian is interrupted by a heckler during his set, a comedy show turns into a heated discussion about Israel and Palestine.
Catalogue of Noses by Lauren Schaffel
A 16-year-old Jewish actor faces off with her Jewish mother and plastic surgeon to make the biggest decision of her life.
Come enjoy a night of staged readings at everyone’s favorite Yiddish bookstore/cultural center, DER NISTER.
For the past five months, JewFace’s Short Play Lab has developed 3 new plays by writers Shira Gorelick, Matt Gottlieb, and Lauren Schaffel. In a series of writing workshops, these playwrights developed extraordinary new short works about everything from nose jobs and Hollywood, to abortion and Israel/Palestine tensions. Casey Adler and Yvonne Cone are the producers of this program and the Directors of New Play Development.
What is JewFace?
JewFace is the ugly stepchild of the Jewish-American theater scene. As the experimental play development wing of 501(c)3 theater company ShPIel Performing Identity, we educate ourselves on Jewish theater and incubate new short plays that encourage writers to create stories about the taboo and controversial topics within Jewish culture.
